One of Germany’s largest private rail freight operators in maritime hinterland traffic is introducing Rail-Flow’s Transport Management System. First goal: end-to-end digital capacity planning, order handling and invoicing, with interfaces to terminals and partners.

Frankfurt am Main / Hamburg, 3 November 2026. boxXpress.de GmbH and Rail-Flow GmbH have signed an agreement to implement a new Transport Management System to manage their hinterland transport operations.boxXpress operates block trains connecting the container terminals of the North Sea ports and Rotterdam with terminals in southern Germany, Austria and Hungary. Going forward, the company will use Rail-Flow’s technology to manage capacity, transport orders and commercial processing.
The first project phase focuses on an intermodal transport management system. Digital solutions developed by the shareholders, such as the railMybox platform, depend on seamless, end-to-end information and data exchange. Interfaces to seaport terminals and partner systems will keep the order flow running end to end without manual re-entry. This is complemented by AI-supported document processing, for example for dangerous goods and customs documents. A second phase will add fleet management and the integration of further corporate systems.
The project started with a joint kickoff in Hamburg in August 2026. Go-live of the first phase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
“Every week, boxXpress moves around 16.500 standard containers (TEU) on some 170 trains between the seaports and the hinterland. To keep growing, our processes have to keep pace with our network, from capacity planning to invoicing,” says Tim Krasowka, Managing Director of boxXpress.de GmbH. “We did not want to be dependent on and limited by an in-house development and lose time along the way, but to rely on a proven solution from the market that already reflects industry requirements, brings best practices with it and that we can introduce step by step. That is what we found at Rail-Flow.”
“Too much in rail freight is still coordinated by email, phone and spreadsheet. That is exactly what we want to change,” says Dominik Fürste, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Rail-Flow. “With boxXpress we are not starting from scratch: we are introducing an established technology and configuring it to fit boxXpress. A stronger boxXpress ultimately benefits its shareholders and their customers too.”
“In seaport hinterland traffic, the flow of data between terminal, intermodal operator and rail freight operator determines how quickly a container gets onto the train, whether an export container makes its vessel and how long an import container sits in storage,” says Osman Akdemir, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Rail-Flow. “That is why we connect the Transport Management System directly to the systems of terminals and partners and use AI to read accompanying documents such as dangerous goods and customs papers. Manual data entry becomes a seamless digital process.”
